APS Conducts Tactical Site Surveys

Alpena Public Schools conducted Tactical Site Surveys of two of its buildings in partnership with the Alpena Police Department, Alpena Fire Department, the Alpena County Sheriff, and Michigan State Police.
Today, Alpena Public Schools conducted Tactical Site Surveys of two of its buildings in partnership with the Alpena Police Department, Alpena Fire Department, the Alpena County Sheriff, and Michigan State Police. The goal of these site surveys is to gather data on potential safety and security concerns in the district. This data will then be used to inform safety and security work and help prioritize the needs of each building.
The Tactical Site Surveys were conducted by a multidisciplinary team consisting of APS Superintendent, Dave Rabbideau, Director of Communications Lee Fitzpatrick, Principals Katie Lee and Romeo Bourdage, District Nurse Lisa Thayer, Facilities and Maintenance Director Kurt Konieczny, Utility Unit Director Simon Zolnierek, Network and Security Engineer Adam Keyes, Larry Johns Principal at Pied Piper from AMA ESD, APD Chief Joel Jett, APFD Deputy Chief Training Officer Rob Edmonds, Alpena County Sheriff Eric Smith, and Michigan State Police Trooper Robert Mitchell.
Tactical Site Surveys have been scheduled for each Alpena Public School building throughout the remainder of July.
With the passage of the 2022-23 School Aid Budget, Alpena Public Schools will receive $382,256 from Sec. 97 School Safety Per Pupil Payment. This money will be used to fund safety upgrades identified through the Tactical Site Surveys and other upgrades already identified.
Alpena Public Schools is in year two of implementing the Safe, Warm, and Dry bond. Security upgrades funded by this bond include secure entry vestibules at each school, upgrades to the district’s camera system, and other security improvements.
