In addition to his basketball experience Dietlin has spent almost 20 years coaching volleyball at the varsity and collegiate levels. He has developed a reputation for fostering competitive, well-prepared teams, with strong team cultures. His diverse coaching background has shaped a leadership style centered on high standards, trust, open communication, and consistent development.
Known for his enthusiastic and hands on coaching approach Dietlin is focused on increasing participation, strengthening program evolutionary development from level to level, and creating an environment where student athletes can succeed both on and off the court for today and in the future. Dietlin stated "I am excited to get started and build relationships with all the players. There is a lot to look forward to and I am grateful for the opportunity."
John and his wife Jessica are residents of Alpena. They have 3 children in the district. Their son attends Alpena High and 2 daughters attend Thunder Bay Junior High.

Alpena Public Schools is proud to announce that in the 2026-27 school year, we will provide new transportation services for our families who utilize our local daycare centers. This approach aligns with the APS Strategic Plan Pillar IV: Family and Community Partnerships.
APS will now provide transportation to and from the daycare centers and elementary schools listed below:
The following transportation services will be available for elementary students:
● Alpena Child Development Center: Servicing Besser, Ella White, and Lincoln.
● Scribbles and Giggles: Servicing Besser and Hinks.
● Totally Kids: Servicing Ella White.
● Sunrise Daycare: Servicing Ella White.
Boys and Girls Club Transportation
Busing will also be provided to the Boys and Girls Club from Besser, Ella White, and Lincoln as well as ACES, Alpena High and Thunder Bay.
Interested families will need to contact transportation at 989-358-5792 to enroll for services. We hope this addition to our services eases scheduling and transportation concerns and provides peace of mind for our students and families.

Open to APS Students earning their diploma in the Spring of 2026 who will attend Michigan State University in Fall 2026. Preference will be given to students that plan to study accounting, finance, supply chain management, business management or STEM fields (Science, Engineering, Technology and Mathematics).
Award- $2500 toward tuition at Michigan State University
