The last day of this school year will now be Monday, June 15th.
This schedule adjustment comes as we await the Governor's signature on the recently passed snow day forgiveness bill. While the bill has not yet been officially signed, it has been approved by both the Michigan House and Senate, and her signature is expected soon.
Please note the schedule for the final weeks of school:
June 8th, 9th, 10th and 11th: Full day
June 12th: Half Day
Monday, June 15th: Half day (Last day of school)
As a side note: For those who might be wondering why we do not qualify for forgiveness of days under the Governor's Executive Order No. 2026-7:
You might know that the state bill HB 5797 grants five extra forgiveness days to schools in counties listed under Executive Order No. 2026-7 due to recent flooding. While Alpena County is on that list, Alpena Public Schools did not actually lose any instructional days or have to close during the specified April 12 to May 13 flood window. Because we weren't forced to close, those specific flood-related forgiveness days unfortunately do not apply to our district.
We recognize that any changes to the end-of-year calendar can pose inconveniences for our staff and families. We truly appreciate your flexibility, patience, and understanding as we navigate these final state-level updates.
Thank you for your continued support and for your dedication to a strong finish to the school year!
Sincerely,
Dave Rabbideau
