Alpena Public Schools is proud to announce that in the 2026-27 school year, we will provide new transportation services for our families who utilize our local daycare centers. This approach aligns with the APS Strategic Plan Pillar IV: Family and Community Partnerships.

APS will now provide transportation to and from the daycare centers and elementary schools listed below:

The following transportation services will be available for elementary students:

●     Alpena Child Development Center: Servicing Besser, Ella White, and Lincoln.

●     Scribbles and Giggles: Servicing Besser and Hinks.

●     Totally Kids: Servicing Ella White.

●     Sunrise Daycare: Servicing Ella White.

Boys and Girls Club Transportation

Busing will also be provided to the Boys and Girls Club from Besser, Ella White, and Lincoln as well as ACES, Alpena High and Thunder Bay.

Interested families will need to contact transportation at 989-358-5792 to enroll for services. We hope this addition to our services eases scheduling and transportation concerns and provides peace of mind for our students and families.

The Sunset Project presents

Virtual Presentation for Parents & Community Members (AHS, ACES, and RCHS)
Overview: The Sunset Project (TSP), a nonprofit serving Northeast Michigan, will facilitate
Ending the Silence (ETS)—a mental health awareness program—through in-classroom
presentations for students at Alpena High School, ACES, and Rogers City High School during
the week of May 4, 2026. TSP will also offer a virtual presentation for parents and community
members on Tuesday, May 5.
Parent and Community Presentation:
Location: Virtual via ZOOM:
Join Zoom Meeting: https://zoom.us/j/8237247400
Meeting ID: 823 724 7400
Date: Tuesday, May 5th, 2026
Time: 7-7:50 PM
Additional Information:
Ending the Silence (ETS) is an evidence-based program developed by the National Alliance on
Mental Illness (NAMI) to be delivered in classroom settings. It helps students recognize and
address the signs and symptoms of common mental health challenges, such as depression,
anxiety, and suicidal ideation.
The Sunset Project partners with NAMI Grand Traverse, MyMichigan Health, and the Northeast
Michigan Community Mental Health Authority to bring this impactful program to schools across
Northeast Michigan. Each presentation features two trained speakers—one lead and one youth
facilitator—who share resources and information about mental health and then open up about
their personal experiences. These honest, relatable stories help normalize emotions and reduce
stigma, encouraging students to seek help when needed. The program is designed to fit within a
single class period, often delivered during health classes.

More information about Ending the Silence can be found on NAMI’s
